Updates and announcements
I hope everyone had a wonderful
4-day weekend! I am excited to have finished up 6 of my 7 classes over the
weekend! It feels so good to have the extra time to sew and relax in the
evenings.
We have a lot of exciting things
coming up in our calendar! Be sure to keep an eye on the “Important Dates”
section. We are back to our regular learning in addition to these fun and
exciting events.
Our week in learning
Students have learned all of the idioms in our
curriculum! We may use this time to catch up on some that we missed.
Students will learn about the roots rideo, laboro,
and ergon. There will be a routine roots quiz over these next week.
Students will learn about the poem “O Captain! My
Captain!” and recite it on 5/1.
In Literature, we will read through chapter 11 in
“Across Five Aprils”. Students should be mindful to keep up to date on their
journal entries.
In Grammar, we will learn about predicate
nominatives (predicate nouns and pronouns) on Tuesday. We will review for the
rest of the week and take our End of Year grammar test on Friday.
This week in science, we will
continue our study of the endocrine system. On Thursday and Friday, students
will learn about the effects the endocrine system will have on them as they
learn about how humans grow and develop during puberty. Students will be in
gender separated classrooms during these important lessons. Please see
the letter that went home with your child for additional information.
This week in History we will
begin our next unit: Westward Expansion After the Civil War. We will pick up
with the gold rushes in the West, and different mining towns that popped up as
a result. We also will learn about the first continental railroad, and the two
companies, the Union Pacific Railroad, and the Central Pacific that built it.
In
math, we will start a unit on angles. This week, students will be measuring
angles and learning about the relationships between the addition of angles in a
straight line and a circle. ALL workbook homework assignments will be half of
every type of problem. Students should complete all of the packets that are
homework. There will be no math groups this week as we have just started a
unit.
