Updates and announcements

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We have just a couple days of AZMerit testing left. Please make sure your child goes to bed early tonight and Wednesday night, and eats a good breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Fifth grade is lucky in that we have a four day weekend after our last AZMerit test!
Tutoring is cancelled this week due to AZMerit testing.

If you are interested in chaperoning for the Capitol field trip on May 15th, please email me ASAP. I want to give priority to parents who did not get to chaperone the last field trip.

The Human Growth and Development letters went home last week. These are opt-out lessons. If you do not want your child to participate in these lessons, please send back the form signed. If you have any questions on the curriculum or would like to review it, I can help you set up an appointment with Mrs. Mason.

Thank you to all who attended our Usborne Book Fair this week! It was a joy to see you and we are so thankful for your support. If you are interested in purchasing more Usborne books, please visit the link below.  This link will bring you to a unique page connected to our school and will be valid until April 19th. After your purchase, you will receive contact from our Usborne Representative, Mrs. Cleary, and she will refund you the shipping cost.

Please email Ms. Modisett (bmodisett@archwayarete.org) with any questions!

There is no school on Friday, 4/19 and Monday, 4/22.

Our week in learning

Students have learned all of the idioms in our curriculum! We may use this time to catch up on some that we missed.

Students will learn about the roots fides, solus, and monos. There will be a routine roots quiz over these next week.

Students will learn about the poem “O Captain! My Captain!” and recite it on 5/1.

In Literature, we will read through chapter 10 in “Across Five Aprils”. Students should be mindful to keep up to date on their journal entries.

The AZMerit ELA tests will be on Tuesday, 4/16 and Thursday, 4/18. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.

Due to AZ Merit, this week will again will be light in science. Students will learn about the thyroid and the pancreas, as well as common diseases that affect those organs.

This week in History, students will review for and take the Unit 10 test on the American Civil War. Study guides are due on Monday, which will be our review day. Although Tuesday is reserved for AzMERIT, students that finish early will rotate through stations with facts about Jim Crow Laws that were in place after the Civil War. Our test will be on Wednesday.

In math, we will review for the AZMerit test, though with two tests this week, math work will be very light. ALL workbook homework assignments will be half of every type of problem. Students should complete all of the packets that are homework. We will have Math Groups most weeks until the end of the quarter. Math groups will be on Wednesday, 8:00-9:15.
