Updates and announcements

Happy Week 4! The quarter is just flying by. I hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Our scholars persevered on their AZMerit writing test on Friday and I believe they turned in their best work!

The letters on our Human Growth and Development classes went home on Friday. This is an opt-out lesson. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Fine Arts and French Night is Wednesday, 4/10.

Our week in learning

Students have learned all of the idioms in our curriculum! We may use this time to catch up on some that we missed.

Students will learn about the roots vox, loquor, and felix. There will be a routine roots quiz over these next week.

In Literature, we will read through chapter 8 in “Across Five Aprils”. Students should be mindful to keep up to date on their journal entries.

In Writing and Grammar, students will review informational text and practice language AZMerit questions. The AZMerit ELA tests will be on Tuesday, 4/16 and Thursday, 4/18. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.

Due to AZ Merit, this week will be very light in terms of science. Students will be introduced to the endocrine system this week, which will culminate in our lessons on human growth and development on April 25th and 26th. A letter with more information on these valuable lessons was sent home with your child last week.

This week in History, we will finish our unit on the American Civil War. We will discuss the assassination of President Lincoln, and the Reconstruction efforts under Andrew Johnson, including his disagreements with Congress and Radical Republicans. Lessons will detail Johnson’s impeachment, as well as the end of Reconstruction in the South and the institution of racist groups, such as the Klu Klux Klan, and laws, such as the Jim Crow laws.

In math, we will finish a very short, abridged unit on average and rate. There will be no test on this unit. We will also be working on some of the last AZMerit math packets of the year! On Friday, we will work through a paper practice test together and discuss how the problems may appear on the computer-based test. ALL workbook homework assignments will be half of every type of problem. Students should complete all of the packets that are homework. We will have Math Groups most weeks until the end of the quarter. Math groups will be on Wednesday, 8:00-9:15.
