Updates and announcements

We are in the home stretch of the school year and looking towards our final assessments of the year! Students are enjoying more creative assignments. The goal is to keep the activities full of rigor and tap into their creative juices while curbing their excitement for the school year to be over. This is especially true in fifth grade because they are so excited to move on to middle school.

This week, I will be out on Wednesday for Paul’s Doctoral graduation!

The Prep Tour is this Friday. Students will eat their lunches with the prep students after their tour is over. School lunches will be delivered to the prep side.

Next week is the Capitol Field Trip!

Be on the lookout for Promotion night information. It will be on Wednesday, May 22nd.

Our week in learning

Students have learned all of the idioms in our curriculum! We may use this time to catch up on some that we missed.

Students will learn about the roots orthos and dokein. There will be a routine roots quiz over these next week. The study guide for roots 76-100 will be passed out on Wednesday and due on 5/15.

Students will recite the poem “A Bird Came Down the Walk” during the week of 5/13.

In Literature, we will give class time for students to work on their Across Five Aprils newspaper. Please refer to their packet with the calendar of due dates for more information.

In Grammar, we will be working through the rest of the Tall Tales unit. Students will peer and self edit, create a dedication page, and write their final drafts with accompanying illustrations. We will have an Author’s Tea on Friday after the Prep Tour on Friday where students will read their Tall Tales to their peers while enjoying cookies and lemonade. Please note that only students who have completed the assignment will participate in this fun event.

We are nearing our end of our anatomy studies! Students will take their endocrine system test Monday, and begin their study of the nervous system on Tuesday. This will be a quick unit; study guides for the nervous system will be passed out Thursday, and will be due the 16th. The nervous system test will be the 17th.

This week in History, students will be tested on their knowledge of Unit 11: Westward Expansion After the Civil War. Study guides are due on Tuesday, when we will have a review day, and the test will be Wednesday. Students will work on advertisement projects on Monday, and present their projects on Thursday. This project will be given two days in class (last Friday included), and does not need to be taken though, though some students may opt to do this.

In math, we will continue a unit on angles. This week, students will be finding the unknown angles in parallelograms and trapezoids and taking their final test on Friday. ALL workbook homework assignments will be half of every type of problem. Students should complete all of the packets that are homework. Our LAST math groups will be at the normal time this week, Wednesday, 8:00-9:15.
